Hi I’m Tia, I’ve just turned 17. In my spare time, I enjoy dancing, listening to music on my record player and have a growing vinyl collection. I am a keen drummer and used to play in a girl band called Ordinary Strangers.
After completing my GCSE’s, I studied Animal Care for a year at Broomfield College in Derby. It was a great year and I thoroughly enjoyed caring for the animals but felt something was missing. Having always had a passion for supporting others, I was interest in working with people with learning disabilities.
When I saw an opening for an apprentice at TAS, it was the perfect opportunity for change. Upon visiting the TAS website, I found their whole ethos of using adventure to achieve full potential really exciting and was keen to be part of the team.
From day one, I have felt welcomed by staff and adventurers, which has helped me to settle in very quickly. I’ve loved meeting and getting to know the Adventurers, learning their favourite activities, food, music and what they do in their spare time.
I’ve always had a love for the great outdoors and have enjoyed sharing this with the Adventurers and the team. On my first session with the Adventurers, we practiced paddling skills and canoeing at Girton. It was fantastic watching them push beyond their comfort zone, taking risks to achieve new goals.
Another favourite activity was joining the Adventurers for a tasty pub lunch after a walk around Wollaton Park. As part of my apprenticeship, I’m looking forward to taking a Level 2 Qualification in Health and Social Care to improve my skill base and benefit my practice.
Every day is different at The Adventure Service and I am always learning something new!
