There is strong scientific evidence, supporting the benefits of health and wellbeing in a natural, peaceful environment. Being around a water environment helps to induce a positive mind/mood and helps to reduce stress.

Checking the weather forecast. You can this on loads of different websites. Such as Met Office, BBC Weather etc.
Wearing the right clothing for the weather and water.
The water can be very chilly at times. To have spare warm clothes to change into when finished.
Inform someone of where you are going and when you plan to be back.
Carry a mobile phone in a waterproof pouch.
Start off kneeling until you feel like with moving to standing.
