Movember - Terry's Mo-tive!

Writer: The Adventure ServiceThe Adventure Service

As the end of the year is approaching, it’s the time of year where many men take part in Movember. Movember is the leading charity for changing the face of men’s health. They focus in on prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health & suicide prevention. By 2030, the aim of the Movember charity is to reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25%.

Many men raise awareness in the month of November by growing their moustaches! This is exactly what our Director, Terry, is doing to raise money for the charity.

Terry said:

“I am looking foolish for the entirety of November! I am taking part as I feel that this is a worthy cause and something close to my heart. As some of you may know I was diagnosed with cancer 6 years ago, hopefully, get the all-clear today! I think that it is important that we raise awareness of these issues because us men aren't always great at talking about these things!”

Terry says goodbye to his beard for November!

Below are some staggering facts that push the charity and men all over the world, to make a change.

  • Men die on average six years earlier than women.

  • Unchecked prostate cancer rates will double in the next 15 years, if the rate continues.

  • Testicular cancer rates have already doubled in the last 50 years.

  • Across the world, one man dies of suicide every minute of every day.

  • Male suicides alone account for 75% of all suicides.

There are other ways to get involved and raise money for the charity, you don’t just have to grow a silly moustache!

Another campaign you can take part in is Move for Movember! Move this Movember by running or walking 60 kilometres over the month. That’s 60 kilometres for the 60 men we lose to suicide each hour, every hour across the world.

You could also host a mo-ment! This Movember, any chance you can get together with mates is a chance to raise much-needed funds for men’s health. Cook up a fancy dinner. Tee up a sports match. Pump the tunes at a party. Or set up a Shave Down – a group shave-off of facial hair to get the month started.
