Double Award Winners!

In the last two months, we have become double award winners bagging awards at the East Midlands Chamber Business Awards and the Institute of Outdoor Learning Celebrating Outdoor Learning Awards.

Back in September, the Directors of the company, Terry and Helen, nominated their Social Media and Digital Marketing Apprentice, Lauren, for Nottinghamshire’s Apprentice of the Year Award. Lauren and Terry then attended an interview, in front of a panel of judges, where the pair of them had to present why Lauren should win the award.

We were then shortlisted down to the last four and invited to the Nottingham Belfry to attend the award ceremony. It was a black-tie event, all the men were in bow ties, while all the ladies were in their fanciest evening gowns. We tucked in to a lovely three course meal, before hearing who won the awards. Sameena Ali-Khan from ITV News hosted the event and Lauren was presented her award and bottle of bubbly by Robert Mayo, the President of East Midlands Chamber. She was the only female to win an award!

Just over a month later, we put ourselves forward for three categories in the Institute of Outdoor Learning Celebrating Outdoor Learning Awards and we were shortlisted for the Workforce Development Award. This award recognises and values excellence of the masses of work and training that go into the development of a business.

We submitted our application form and waited to hear back. A few weeks later, we received an email containing all the nominees for each award, where we saw The Adventure Service had been nominated for an award. We were then informed that the winners would be determined by a public vote. So, we spent some time getting the word out about our nomination!

Our Day Service Managers, Mala and Sarah, attended the UK Outdoor Learning Sector Conference and then the Celebrating Outdoor Learning award ceremony, that took place that evening. There was a nice sit-down meal and an opportunity to mingle with others in the outdoor business sector. 250 people attended the awards, with 32 entries and over 6,000 votes across all categories.
